Queensland’s Local Government quadrennial elections are due to be held on Saturday 28 March 2020. In Local Government Elections voting is compulsory.
The Electoral Commission of Queensland (ECQ) proposes to publish the election notice on Saturday 22 February 2020. A caretaker period will start for all councils upon publication of the notice on the ECQ’S website.
Nominations for candidates for election as mayors and councillors will be open from publication of the notice of election on 22 February, until midday Tuesday 03 March 2020. Details of candidates will be on the ECQ’S website.
Electors will have until 5pm 28 February 2020 to either update their enrolment to their new name and address or to enrol for the first time. This will ensure their eligibility to vote in this election.
Under the Local Government Electoral Act 2011, Quilpie Shire will have a full postal ballot, whereby all ballot papers will be posted to residents with a Quilpie Shire Council area address on the electoral roll. If you are considering nominating for election as mayor or councillor at the local government elections check the eligibility for nomination and other requirements that apply by visiting the Commission’s website at www.ecq.qld.gov.au.
