Your Rates

Rates are levied on properties to help finance the provision of Council services throughout the Shire. Rates are issued twice yearly for the periods from 01 January to 30 June and 01 July to 31 December.
Quilpie Shire uses differential rating categories to ensure a more equitable basis for the distribution of general rates.

It is the responsibility of the property owner to advise Council of any change of address. For further information please contact Council’s Customer Service Centre on (07) 4656 0500

General Rate

The general rate is calculated using the unimproved capital valuation (UCV) issued by the State Government multiplied by the rate in the dollar set by Council. A minimum rate is also set for each category.

Service Charges

Water, sewerage and garbage, are fees charged for receiving this service.

State Fire Service Levy

Council collects a fire levy from properties within the designated area on behalf of Queensland Fire and Rescue.

Rate notices are issued twice yearly in March and August. The prompt payment discount will be allowed if payment is received by 5.00pm on the applicable due date.

To ensure you don’t miss the discount and to avoid paying interest, please consider BPay and EFT payment clearance timeframes. It is the responsibility of the property owner to advise Council of any change of address.

As per Council’s policy, interest will commence accruing on any outstanding balances the day they become overdue at the rate of 9.83% compounding daily.
If you are experiencing difficulties in paying your rates on time, please contact Council to discuss your options, including entering into a payment plan which, when maintained, will suspend any interest from accumulating.

For further information please contact Council’s Customer Service Centre on (07) 4656 0500.

Ratepayers will receive a discount of 10% if rates (including any overdue rates) are paid in full by the date nominated on the notice.

  • Eligible pensioners are entitled to a 20% State Government Subsidy up to a maximum of $200.00 per annum.
  • Eligible pensioners are entitled to a 50% remission on Council Rates and Charges up to maximum of $450 per annum (not including State Fire Levy) plus the 10% discount if paid by nominated date.
