Australia Day 2025
On 26 January 2025 Australians, all around the country will celebrate what is great about Australia: land, sense of fair go, lifestyle, democracy, the freedoms we enjoy but particularly our people. In Quilpie Shire it is celebrated by acknowledging local community members who have contributed to the community, but also with pool parties and BBQ and announced of award recipients at Bulloo Park. We would like you to help us celebrate what is great about our community by nominating someone for an Australia Day Award.
The Award categories and Selection Criteria (as per website)
- Citizen of the Year
- Nominees must be 16 years of age and over and are required to be residents of Quilpie Shire. Nominations will need to demonstrate the scope of impact the individual's contribution has on the Quilpie Shire community.
- Young Citizen of the Year
- Nominees must be 16 years of age and under and are required to be residents of Quilpie Shire. Nominations will need to demonstrate the scope of impact the individual's contribution has on the Quilpie Shire community.
- Community Group of the Year
- The award is designed to encourage, acknowledge and reward the valuable contributions individuals and community groups are making throughout Quilpie Shire.
- Certificate of Appreciation
- Certificates of Appreciation are awarded to individuals for specific work they have carried out throughout the year. This can be a great way to thank any volunteers in your organisation who have gone above and beyond the call of duty.
- Quilpie Shire Business Award
- Business nominated for the Quilpie Shire Business award must operate within the Quilpie Shire. This award is designed to recognise outstanding business practice, innovation, customer service, and community spirit.
Selection Criteria
Please consider the selection criteria listed when completing your nomination.
- How has the person/group or event made an outstanding contribution to the local community?
- How is the person an inspirational role model for the community?
- Why do you believe that this person/group should receive an Australia Day Award?
- Does the nominee work in a volunteer capacity or in a paid position?
- Have these contributions taken place in 2024?
How to submit a nomination form
Nominations close 12pm Thursday 16 January 2025.
Please complete and submit the nomination form to Quilpie Shire Council, using one of the following options.

Please ensure your nomination is marked "Confidential - Australia Day Awards".
Supporting documentation may also be provided with your nomination form if you feel it will assist the judges in making their decision. Supporting documentation can include items such as personal references, photographs, samples of work, portfolios, newspaper articles etc. Please do not supply originals of supporting documentation, as all documentation will be retained by Quilpie Shire Council.
