Council is seeking a self-motivated, experienced and dedicated Grader Operator who is capable of performing a wide range of maintenance, repair and construction activities within the Roads and Drainage section of Council. This position also involves the servicing and maintenance of the Grader in good working condition. The successful applicant will possess demonstrated team leadership skills with the ability to motivate and encourage team members to effectively and efficiently deliver capital works, maintenance activities, minor works or specific tasks as required. It is a requirement of the position that the successful applicant is willing to camp out.
While Council is ideally seeking an experienced Operator, consideration will be given to appointing a trainee Grader Operator, so inexperienced applicants may apply if they have a willingness to learn.

POSITION OBJECTIVE / OVERVIEW
To undertake construction and maintenance activities across the Shire as required and as directed in a safe and efficient manner and in accordance with Council’s Operational Plan and Budget.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES / DUTIES
- Safely and efficiently operate Council’s plant on road construction and maintenance activities and projects as required;
- Supervise and coordinate Plant Operators required to work with the Grader;
- Ensure all work is carried out in accordance with the Quality Assurance system and industry standards;
- Ensure that correct signage is used in accordance with current regulations;
- Undertake responsibility for the correct maintenance and care of plant and equipment and ensure that all defects are recorded promptly and alerted to the Supervisor, and that weekly plant reports are completed;
- Ensure that timesheets are completed accurately; and
- Undertake any labouring duties as directed by the Road Construction and Maintenance Supervisor.
QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and EXPERIENCE
Essential
- Current General Construction Induction Card;
- Current Queensland ‘HR’ Class Driver’s Licence;
- Demonstrated experience in operating, servicing and maintaining a Grader in good condition;
- Demonstrated ability in the efficient and effective use of all plant on road construction and maintenance projects and miscellaneous works; and
- Up to date knowledge of construction and maintenance techniques and approaches.
Desirable
- Certificate of Competency for a Grader;
- Experience and ability in final trim grader operations;
- Competency in Traffic Management Implementation;
- Other plant operator certificates of competencies relevant to the position;
- Experience in leading hand/crew leader role; and
Experience in using local and imported construction materials (gravels)
WORK ENVIRONMENT and PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Work duties are primarily performed in an outdoors environment and regularly exposed to changing weather conditions. Accordingly, the position requires the capability to work outdoors particularly in the hot and humid local climate. The position also requires the physical capability to perform manual labouring tasks that require the full range of human movement such as climbing, shoveling, lifting, bending, twisting, pushing, squatting, reaching and stretching.
The position also requires work to be undertaken in remote areas that will involve camping overnight. Accordingly, the incumbent will be required to contribute to camps being maintained in a safe, clean and proper manner.
